From City Life 11; May 84. Review of Northern Soul compilations with track listings for those who dig that sort of a thing.
Other stuff in this issue:-Report on the biased roll the Greater Manchester Police Force are taking in the miners dispute, including phone tracing as opposed to phone tapping; quicker/ easier. sounds like the red/ dead, John Birch/ McCarthy witch trials/ all over again. Arthur Millers The Crucible had long been a modern classic by then and yet, in an instant, how quickly lessons learned can be discarded. The price of freedom ....eternal vigilance; a lesson that may be even more relevant today,Tea Party and the like....
Another article on City Life magazine being forced to submit their first 8 issues to the police after a daytime visit from the Greater Manchester Police Publicity Department, and without even paying; thieving gets! Someone should have called the police!Didnt even know police had publicity departments.....
The Out and About section featuring Liverpool and all things Beatlemania. Actually worked on the Beatle Museum in the Albert Dock for a couple of months before it opened and I have pretty much avoided hearing Magical Mystery Tour for all these years as it was the one song they consistently used ,ad nauseum, ad infinitum, for the purposes of checking the P.A. system. Never again!....
Feature on Israel and working on a kibbutz. The idea used to have a bit of a broad appeal back then, as an often first time adventure experience; either that or grape picking in France. The idea of working on a holiday was something of an anathema to me so I personally never did partake.
In the Eating Out section, recipes for Calypso Rice and Salted Beef and Banana Casserole; not sure about the latter but City Life surely covered all bases.
Bladerunner at The Aaben; Return of the Jedi and Terms of Endearement on general release etc.....
